More support for homeowners affected by flooding

The County Council voted at last month’s meeting to provide an extra  £1 million to help those impacted by flooding. It has been decided that the £1 million should be allocated to a Lincolnshire County Council Property flood resilience scheme. This will be for areas which from early January were impacted and secondly those properties who lost out with Defra funding from the earlier instances. The scheme has yet to go live, and I have written to the  Parish Council for the one area identified as having properties which could benefit under this scheme.  Homeowners  in the allocated area will have to apply once the scheme has “gone live”.

Real time bus information

The first wave of digital bus boards is now up and running in Lincolnshire, meaning accurate, live information on bus journeys as they happen. There are two types of boards being fitted to bus stops across the county by Vix, who are overseeing both the installation and ongoing maintenance. With the first phase now complete, the Real Time system is up and running at selected locations. Funded by the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) there will be a mixture of large displays and battery-powered E-paper screens.

Currently, there are 12 of the large boards running at larger bus stations whilst 39 smaller E-paper displays are now in position at roadside bus stops. I have been advised that Metheringham will have one in a future phase of the roll out.

Special Display marks 800th anniversary of 1225 Magna Carta

Visitors to Lincoln Castle have the rare opportunity to see three of the most important documents in British legal history side by side.

To celebrate the 800th anniversary of the 1225 Charter of the Forest, visitors can step into the past and experience an extra special display bringing together the 1225 charter, the 1215 Magna Carta and 1217 Forest Charter.

Whereas the legendary Magna Carta declared that kings had to act within the rule of law, its equally important companion document, the Charter of the Forest, reclaimed land for use by ordinary people. Lincoln Castle is the only place in the world where these international icons of law and fundamental human rights can be seen side by side. The three documents are on display until 1 June 2025 in the magnificent surroundings of the David P J Ross Magna Carta Vault.

Entry to the vault is included as part of a Lincoln Castle day ticket or annual pass, which also lets you explore the Medieval Wall Walk and Victorian Prison. Tickets now available  exclusively at www.lincolncastle.com.
